Necessary tools for the home cook
by Anthony Bourdain:
1. A decent chef’s knife, for God’s sake
2. An offset serrated knife, a genuinely useful blade
3. Plastic squeeze bottle & toothpicks
4. Metal ring for making food “tall”
5. Mandoline (that’s a vertically held slicer with various blade settings)
6. Stockpot, saucepan & thick-bottomed saute pan (capable of causing serious head injury)
7. Nonstick saute pan, which is a thing of beauty
For as often as I cook, I am lacking most items from this list.
